In Dnipro, criminal police apprehended a 35-year-old woman who, posing as a volunteer, stole more than 166,000 hryvnias from elderly spouses. This was reported by "Vidomo" citing the police of the Dnipropetrovsk region.
The perpetrator skillfully disguised herself as a volunteer and appeared at the elderly couple's doorstep. Presenting herself as a representative of a charitable organization, she brought food items, thereby creating the illusion of "good intentions."
The fraudster requested to change a 1000 hryvnia bill (allegedly for distributing monetary aid), and when the elderly woman searched for change, she saw where the couple kept their money. Taking advantage of the moment, she stole a bag containing 166,000 hryvnias and fled the scene.
The pensioners reported the incident to the police, who began an investigation. The minibus carrying the suspect was stopped near one of the gas stations on the outskirts of Dnipro. The perpetrator was detained.
Investigators informed the fraudster of the suspicion under part 4 of Article 185 (theft) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. She faces a penalty of up to 8 years in prison.
