The acting head of "Ukrenergo," Alexey Brecht, believes that winter 2024-2025 will be one of the most challenging in the last three years.
This was stated in his interview with the publication “Suspilne”.

According to the official, "Ukrenergo" is preparing for several possible scenarios for this winter.
“Three scenarios, including the worst-case scenario – a continuation of massive attacks on infrastructure, transmission networks, generation facilities, and so on,” he stated.
The company’s leader reminded that in spring, due to shelling, Ukraine lost 9 GW of generating capacity, equivalent to the summer electricity consumption of the Netherlands or the nighttime electricity consumption of Ukraine in summer.
According to Brecht, this is a “significant loss,” and “Ukrenergo” has a plan to restore this capacity.
Moreover, the worst-case scenario for the upcoming winter involves the continuation of massive attacks by Russia on generation facilities.
“In this scenario, with the current volume of electricity imports we have today, we could face power restrictions during critical, cold days, amounting to up to two rounds of scheduled outages, no more. That is, up to 8 hours,” he added.
It is important to note that Ukraine has reached an agreement with the EU on increasing electricity imports this winter.
Earlier, Ukrenergo explained under what conditions winter could pass without power outages. In our infographic, you can see how much electricity Ukraine imports and exports during the war.
