More than 500 applications have already been received by the Ukrainian Legion (a military unit in Poland for recruiting Ukrainian volunteers for the Armed Forces of Ukraine living abroad) from thirty countries around the world.
This was reported by Ukrinform.
It is reported that the recruitment center has been operating since early October at the Consulate General of Ukraine in Lublin. As of early November, more than 500 applications have been received.
According to a representative of the center, the majority of applications came from Ukrainians living in Poland or the Czech Republic, but there are also applicants from the UK, Ireland, the USA, and Canada.
90% of the applications were submitted by men, while 10% were from women. In terms of age, about half of the applications came from young people under 25.
"When it comes to military specialties, young people express a greater desire to join assault units or to be UAV operators. Older individuals tend to prefer roles that are closer to their civilian professions, for example, in logistics units," noted the representative of the center.
He added that the applicants come from a wide range of backgrounds: from students willing to take academic leave for military service to older individuals who have worked abroad as builders or truck drivers. Women are generally interested in medical specialties.
It is also reported that approximately 80% of all Ukrainians who have applied to join the Legion have had no prior military experience.
As a reminder, it was reported in October that about 300 people were ready to join the Ukrainian Legion. The announcement of the formation of the Ukrainian Legion was made on July 8. Citizens of Ukraine residing in the EU will be able to join.
