Today, February 15, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a phone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov.
This was reported by the press service of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Telegram.
"At the initiative of the American side, a phone call took place between the heads of the foreign affairs agencies of the two countries,” the statement said.
The ministry noted that during the conversation, "there was a mutual willingness to interact on pressing international topics, particularly regarding the situation surrounding Ukraine, the situation in Palestine, and overall issues in the Middle East and other regional matters."
It is highlighted that following the phone conversation between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump on February 12, the heads of the agencies "agreed to maintain a communication channel to address the accumulated issues in Russian-American relations."
The Russian side also stated that the ministers agreed to "organize a meeting of experts in the near future to coordinate specific steps for mutually removing barriers to the operation of Russia's and the U.S.'s foreign representations."
In conclusion, both politicians allegedly confirmed their readiness to work together on "restoring a respectful intergovernmental dialogue" and agreed on regular contacts to prepare for a high-level Russian-American meeting.
It is worth noting that the phone conversations between Trump, Putin, and Zelensky took place on February 12.
After that, Trump announced a meeting involving representatives from the U.S., Ukraine, and Russia. According to Trump, it may take place next week in Saudi Arabia. The media has already learned who Putin included in his negotiating team.
President Vladimir Zelensky stated that he would travel to Saudi Arabia, but not for negotiations with Trump or Putin.
Today, Donald Trump's special representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg, outlined the compromises that the Russian dictator Vladimir Putin must make to end the war, particularly territorial concessions.
