On St. Nicholas Day, the lights on the main Christmas tree of the country were lit in Sofia Square in the capital. It is decorated in white and blue tones. A photo zone was also set up nearby.
This was reported by Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko on Telegram.
“Our tree, like last year, is artificial and 15 meters tall (last year's was 12 meters). But this year it is white. It has been reinstalled and funded by patrons,” he wrote.
According to Klitschko, the white color of the tree symbolizes “the beginning of a bright and pure path, reminding us of the renewal that Christmas and New Year bring.”
The tree is adorned with a light blue garland stretching 2 km, and 2,000 turquoise ornaments have been hung on it.
“This symbolic design complements the majestic facade of St. Sophia Cathedral, creating an irresistible atmosphere. There will also be a beautiful and symbolic photo zone nearby – ‘Wings of the Phoenix,’” the mayor added.
A main railway tree has also been installed at the Central Railway Station in Kyiv.
It is worth noting that the Kyiv Defense Council voted for the installation and arrangement of the Christmas tree in Sofia Square. The tree will be in the square until January 10, 2025. Mass events, fairs, or other entertainment are not planned for Sofia Square.
