As of Saturday, November 2, the devastating floods in Spain have resulted in the deaths of 211 individuals.
This information comes from the agency Reuters.
According to reports, the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, announced that the government is deploying an additional 5,000 military personnel to assist with search operations and disaster recovery, on top of the 2,500 soldiers already stationed in the affected areas.
"This is the largest operation of the Spanish Armed Forces in peacetime. The government intends to mobilize all necessary resources, no matter how long it takes,” Sánchez stated.
The tragedy is reported to be the worst flooding in Europe since 1967, when at least 500 people died in Portugal due to similar natural events.
He also informed that over 30,000 individuals have been rescued from flooded homes, roads, and industrial zones.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday evening, heavy rains began in southern and eastern Spain, leading to the flooding. In just eight hours, the annual rainfall amount fell, resulting in the destruction of roads, railways, and bridges, while rivers overflowed their banks. The death toll is increasing daily. Hundreds of people remain missing.
