2024 год стал самым жарким за всю историю наблюдений, а также нарушил критически важную климатическую цель.

The year 2024 has become the hottest on record, surpassing the previous record set in 2023.

This is reported by the European Climate Change Service Copernicus.

The Earth has experienced the hottest summer in recorded history – scientistsScientists have confirmed that the summer of 2024 was the hottest on record for the Earth.

According to scientists, last year the average temperature was 1.6°C higher than pre-industrial levels (before large-scale fossil fuel burning began). This marks an increase of 0.1°C compared to 2023.

Moreover, this makes 2024 the first year in which the international target of 1.5°C, agreed upon by countries in the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, has been exceeded.

The Copernicus report also highlights several climate records broken last year: July saw the hottest day on record, every month from January to June was the warmest on record, and pollution levels contributing to global warming reached unprecedented heights.

Scientists are still trying to understand why global heat has been so extreme over the past two years. However, the main factor is clear: the human-induced climate crisis, intensified by El Niño – a natural climate phenomenon that tends to cause warming, which began in 2023 and ended earlier this year.

Forecasts indicate that 2025 may not be as hot as the last two years, but it is likely to rank among the top five warmest years on record.

It is important to note that global climate scientists expect that this century global temperatures will rise by at least 2.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This will exceed the internationally agreed target of 1.5°C and will have catastrophic consequences for humanity and the planet.
