U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin are expected to attempt to negotiate a ceasefire deal in Ukraine by the end of April or early May.

This information comes from the Financial Times, citing high-ranking Ukrainian and Western officials.

Basic, ideal, nightmare: Bloomberg outlines three scenarios for ending the war in UkraineBloomberg has predicted three likely scenarios for the conclusion of the Russia-Ukraine war. Sources from the publication also report that Europeans were taken aback by the phone call between Trump and Putin.

According to journalists, two dates are currently under discussion: April 20, when the Orthodox and Catholic churches will celebrate Easter, and May 9, when Russia will commemorate the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany.

“Putin will want to finalize a deal on such a significant day,” stated a Ukrainian official.

The publication also notes that yesterday's phone call between Trump and Putin marked a "sharp turn" away from the policies of the U.S. under Joe Biden, who promised to support Ukraine "for as long as necessary."

Recall that on the evening of February 12, Trump stated he had a "long and very productive" conversation with Putin.

Following that, it became known that the U.S. President also spoke with Zelensky. The head of the Ukrainian state noted that he and Trump discussed several important issues, including ways to achieve peace.

That same evening, Trump deemed Ukraine's NATO membership and the return of the country to its 2014 borders as unlikely. Furthermore, he expressed that he does not see a threat in engaging in direct dialogue with Russia without Zelensky's involvement. Today, Pentagon chief Pete Hegseth assured that the U.S. efforts to negotiate peace between Ukraine and Russia do not constitute a betrayal.
