The United States and the United Kingdom have decided to strengthen sanctions against the energy sector of Russia.
Relevant information has appeared on the websites of the U.S. Treasury and the British government.
Thus, the U.S. sanctions list includes more than 30 Russian oil service companies, including "Surgutneftegas" and "Gazprom Neft." Restrictions have also been applied to the Serbian company NIS, which is a subsidiary of "Gazprom Neft."
Additionally, dozens of tankers and auxiliary vessels used by Russia to transport its oil are also under sanctions.
The UK has also imposed sanctions against "Gazprom Neft" and "Surgutneftegas," noting that these companies produce over 1 million barrels of oil per day.
"Oil revenues are the lifeblood of Putin's military economy. We will not stand by and allow oil profits to jeopardize the lives of Ukrainians, and we will not permit Russia to continue to fill its coffers while threatening our collective security," emphasized Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
Recall that at the end of November, the British authorities introduced a new package of sanctions against the Russian shadow oil fleet. A total of 30 vessels were affected by the restrictions.
Previously, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions against the Russian "Gazprombank" and six of its foreign subsidiaries.
