The USA wants Ukraine to hold elections, especially if a ceasefire agreement with Russia is reached.
This was stated by the special envoy for the Russo-Ukrainian war, General Keith Kellogg, in an interview with Reuters.

Kellogg emphasized that presidential and parliamentary elections should be held in Ukraine, which are currently prohibited by law during martial law.
“Most democratic countries hold elections during wartime. I believe this is very important. I think it is good for democracy. The beauty of a strong democracy is that you have more than one person who can potentially run for office,” he stated.
Reuters highlights that the issue of conducting elections is among the topics that Trump’s circle is discussing in the context of their plan to end the war in Ukraine. They also add that White House officials have been discussing how to encourage Ukraine to agree to elections as part of an initial ceasefire with Russia.
It has also been reported that Trump’s special envoy hopes to achieve an end to the war in Ukraine “within months, not years.”
Previously, Trump stated that his administration has already conducted “very serious” negotiations with Russia regarding the war in Ukraine, and that he and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin may soon take “significant” steps towards ending the conflict.
