The information that the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov allegedly warned members of parliament about the dangers to Ukraine's existence is false.
This was announced by the press service of the GUR on Telegram.
Recently, Ukrainska Pravda published a report regarding a closed meeting that took place within the walls of the Verkhovna Rada, involving the leadership of the parliament and factions along with the command of the Armed Forces and GUR. The military briefed the MPs on the current situation at the front.
“Someone asked him (Budanov – ed.), how much time we have left. And Kirill, with his cold smirk, replies: ‘If there are no serious negotiations by summer, very dangerous processes for the existence of Ukraine may begin,’” stated an unnamed source to UP.
In response to the article, GUR urged the media not to spread rumors and unverified information, “especially on matters of defense in the war, which some political figures, unfortunately, may distort for their own interests, using journalists for this purpose.”
They also emphasized that the dissemination of any messages that may be discussed in meetings marked "confidential" harms the state's security and is exploited by Russia for its own interests.
“Ukraine continues its armed struggle for independence – the war with Russia is ongoing. The informational aspect of the war is also critically important. We remind you of the martial law in effect throughout our state,” the agency added.
It is worth noting that recently, President Volodymyr Zelensky reminded of the main condition for starting negotiations with Russia. He also mentioned that Ukraine currently lacks the strength and resources to reclaim the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas from Russia.
Earlier, The Economist reported that hostilities between Russia and Ukraine may cease in 2025, as both sides are close to exhaustion and “would prefer for the conflict to fade away.”
