The European Union has approved the 16th sanctions package against Russia. The sanctions will officially take effect on the anniversary of the Russian invasion.
This was reported by journalist and Radio Free Europe editor for Europe, Rikard Jozwiak, on social media platform X.
"EU ambassadors have just agreed on the new 16th sanctions package against Russia," he wrote.
According to The Financial Times, the sanctions include a phased ban on the import of primary aluminum by EU countries. Additionally, the sanctions on the export of Russian oil will be further tightened. Furthermore, 13 more banks and 73 vessels from Russia's "shadow fleet" have been added to the EU sanctions list.
As is known, EU countries planned to adopt the 16th package of restrictions by the third anniversary of the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Recall that earlier, media outlets reported details of the 16th EU sanctions package. The previous 15th package of economic and individual restrictive measures against Russia was adopted on December 16, 2024.
