The President of Moldova, Maia Sandu, confirmed that during today’s attack on Ukraine, a Russian missile violated the country's airspace.
She wrote about this on the social media platform X.
“While our countries celebrate Christmas, the Kremlin chooses destruction — targeting Ukraine's energy infrastructure and violating Moldova's airspace with a missile. These actions clearly violate international law. Moldova condemns these actions and stands in full solidarity with Ukraine,” Sandu stated.
At the same time, the Romanian Ministry of Defense announced that they did not detect the Russian missile in their airspace.
“Romanian military authorities were informed by their Ukrainian counterparts that around 7:30 AM, a missile from the Russian forces, which was supposed to strike the Chernivtsi region of Ukraine, was expected to pass through the airspace of the Republic of Moldova and, for about two minutes, through the airspace of Romania. According to monitoring from Romanian air surveillance systems, as well as data provided by NATO countries, the crossing of Romania's airspace was not confirmed,” the statement said.
In the morning, the Air Forces reported that a Russian missile flew through Moldova's airspace. Monitoring channels also indicated that the missile entered Romania.
This was confirmed by Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sibiga. “This Christmas terror is Putin's response to those who spoke of an illusory 'Christmas ceasefire.' One Russian missile flew past the airspace of Moldova and Romania, reminding us that Russia threatens not only Ukraine,” he wrote on X.
Recall that President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the Russians launched more than 70 missiles and over a hundred drones in the morning.
As a result of the attack, the energy infrastructure was damaged, and there is one fatality.
