Elon Musk announced that U.S. President Donald Trump has agreed to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).
This was reported by Axios and NBC News.

Musk's comments on Monday morning followed reports that two senior officials from USAID’s security service were placed on administrative leave after they denied representatives from the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) access to the agency’s secure systems.
Trump's representatives have not yet commented on the situation, but earlier on Sunday, the president told reporters that USAID is "run by radical crazies, and we will kick them out and then make a decision" about its future.
"We are shutting it down (the agency – ed.)", Musk stated.
The billionaire did not specify what legal authority he believes the White House has to close a federal agency without Congressional approval. However, he mentioned that this idea has received "full support from the president."
"Regarding USAID, I discussed this in detail with him (Trump – ed.), and he agreed that we should close it. I actually asked several times: 'Are you sure?', Musk said. He noted that Trump responded: 'Yes'.
Officials in the Trump administration have discussed transferring USAID under the State Department, multiple sources told NBC News.
It is worth recalling that it was previously reported that nearly 100 employees of the U.S. Agency for International Development were suspended from work last week.
At the end of January, USAID in Ukraine received an order to suspend funding for projects.
