Employees of the State Bureau of Investigations (GBR), in collaboration with the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), have announced suspicion against the "curator" of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) in Ukraine, MP Vadym Novynskyi, who has served in several convocations from the banned pro-Russian party "Opposition Bloc".
This information was released by the State Bureau of Investigations.
Investigators report that since the beginning of the armed aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine, starting in 2014, Novynskyi has been promoting Russian narratives through interviews in the media, public speeches, and posts on his own website and social media. In doing so, he attempted to foster anti-government and pro-Russian sentiments within Ukrainian society.
Additionally, the pro-Russian MP followed the directives of the head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill. He maintained close communication with Kirill for a long time and was under his hierarchical authority, effectively acting as the "curator" of the ROC in Ukraine.
“At the same time, the elected official, acting in support of the foreign policy of the aggressor state, systematically engaged in public speeches displaying signs of religious intolerance and enmity,” the GBR notes.
After the start of the full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation into Ukraine, Novynskyi resigned from his position and is currently hiding abroad. Nevertheless, he continues to exert informational influence aimed at undermining Ukraine's sovereignty.
“Comprehensive judicial psychological-linguistic examinations appointed by the investigator have confirmed the facts of the MP's criminal activities in favor of Russia,” the statement adds.
It should be noted that on April 13, 2023, it became known that Novynskyi's assets, valued at over 3.5 billion hryvnias, were frozen. The list of blocked assets includes corporate rights to 40 Ukrainian companies and 30 gas wells.
On May 4 of the same year, new assets of the former MP were seized. The total value of the assets amounted to 10.5 billion hryvnias.
