The administration of U.S. President Joe Biden has indeed authorized Ukraine to use missiles with a range of up to 300 km to strike targets within Russia.
This was stated by the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Josep Borrell, during a press conference on November 18.
“We are specifically talking about a range of 300 kilometers. This is not a large distance when you consider it. These missiles do not reach targets deep within the country, but that is their decision (the U.S. – ed.). Why they made this decision now, rather than before the elections? I do not know,” Borrell said.
He also mentioned that the EU does not have a unified stance on this issue, as the foreign ministers of the EU were unable to reach a collective decision to lift the restrictions.
“Each country will act as it sees fit. The U.S. administration had long denied this, but this time it said ‘yes,’” Borrell summarized.
Recall that yesterday, The New York Times reported that U.S. President Joe Biden has authorized the use of long-range ATACMS missiles by Ukraine against Russian territory for the first time. These missiles can only be used in the territory of Kursk, where North Korean troops are stationed.
Additionally, media reports indicate that Britain and France have also permitted Ukraine to strike targets in Kursk using Storm Shadow/SCALP missiles.
Meanwhile, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has not changed his position on Taurus missiles for Ukraine, despite the approval of long-range strikes by other allies.
