This year, the city authorities began emergency pothole repairs using cold asphalt, reports "Poltavska Dumka". This method enables quick patching of potholes, even at temperatures as low as -20°C, but it serves as a temporary solution to keep the roads passable until spring.

Cold asphalt can be laid without special heating equipment and can be stored in warehouses year-round. If there is no snow and frost, these funds are planned to be redirected to more pressing tasks.

Additionally, the modernization of street lighting is ongoing. Recently, new LED lights were installed on Semyi Ivanenko Lane (formerly known as Proletarsky), which had previously been one of the darkest areas in the city.

These lights not only save electricity but also provide better illumination. As part of this program, seven such streets have been lit over the year, and plans are in place to continue replacing old street lamps with more modern and energy-efficient models.

However, it is important to note that the saved funds, which could have been used for additional repairs and infrastructure improvements, might be allocated to more priority areas.

In the context of war and economic instability, it is quite reasonable to consider whether the funds saved on repairs can be redirected to more critical needs. For instance, to support the army, assist refugees, restore damaged infrastructure, or aid citizens affected by military actions.

In 2025, 130 million hryvnias were allocated for winter road maintenance in Poltava. If there is little snow during the winter, these funds may be redirected to other needs, including completing repair works initiated last year and addressing deficiencies in the roads.

However, it is possible that part of these funds could be directed towards more important objectives, should the city council decide to do so.
