Vitaliy Klitschko firmly opposed the idea of launching public transport in Kyiv during air raid alerts. According to the mayor, such decisions represent not a risk but dangerous populism.

In his Facebook post, he reminded Kyiv residents of the real threats:

  • Debris has fallen on ground sections of the metro four times.
  • An unexploded part of a missile was found at the Metro Bridge support.
  • Enemy strikes damaged 22 units of "Kyivpastrans" transport.

Klitschko believes that those who demand that transport not be halted will not bear responsibility in the event of a tragedy.

"The most terrible populism is populism during war. I do not engage in it and will not! The main thing is to preserve human life," the mayor wrote.

Who supports the transport movement?

These words were a response to the statement of MP Roman Gryshchuk, who actively promotes the idea of restoring transport movement during alerts. He previously hinted on social media that the new head of the Kyiv Military Administration, Timur Tkachenko, is ready to consider the issue.

On January 4, Tkachenko responded to the request:

Nevertheless, the decision was not made in favor of citizens' pleas.

Reactions from Kyiv residents

Klitschko's post garnered a flood of comments:

  • "Not every mayor can look to tomorrow. Go ahead, embarrass yourselves to the very end. You are destroying public transport in Kyiv and don't even regret it."
  • "How unfortunate for Kyiv to have you. So openly disrespecting Kyiv residents when everyone understands that the main beneficiary of your stubbornness is the minibus drivers generating cash."
  • "And standing at open metro stations, like Levoberezhna on the open platform, where a crowd of people gathers, is this safe?"
  • "Mr. Mayor, stop holding millions of Kyiv residents hostage. Work it out with the head of the KMVA, Tkachenko. This is total idiocy. Or just corruption in collusion with the minibus drivers. Launch public transport during alerts!"

Kyiv's mayor's statement has already drawn reactions from MPs, including Dmytro Huryn and Roman Gryshchuk himself.
