Many believe that profiting from the mental health of individuals who have experienced the trauma of war is unethical. While a few thousand hryvnias might be understandable, amassing more than 1 million US dollars over three years of war is certainly something the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) should investigate.
The SBU has reported conducting searches and detaining the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who, according to law enforcement, acquired unjustified assets exceeding 1 million US dollars during the Russo-Ukrainian war.
Moreover, the ordinary Ukrainian psychologist did not declare the corresponding property and registered it under the names of his wife, daughter, sons, and other unrelated individuals.
As the investigation revealed, from 2022 to 2024, the suspect acquired:
- a private house in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region;
- 2 apartments in Kyiv;
- 1 apartment in Odesa;
- 2 plots of land in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region;
- BMW H7 2024 model;
- BMW H7 2022 model;
- BMW X5 2023 model;
- BMW X3 2022 model;
- as well as other assets.
During the searches, SBU investigators also discovered 152,000 US dollars and 34,000 euros.
Interestingly, this is not Oleg Druzi's first arrest. Yes, he was previously detained for bribery in 2017, but as often happens in Ukraine, the case was successfully "lost" in the courts.
Decisions are being made regarding the choice of a preventive measure and the seizure of the official's assets. Given that the SBU reported the assistance of Defense Minister Rustem Umerov and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Syrskyi, there is a chance that this time he will face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
It is worth noting that Oleg Druzi, in addition to being the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, also serves as the deputy chairman of the central military medical commission and was responsible for determining the fitness of military personnel for service.
Currently, the suspect is being prepared for charges under the following articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: ◾ Article 368-5 (illegal enrichment); ◾ Article 366-2 (declaration of false information).
